Various Artists - Rocksteady: Taking Over Orange Street 1966 - 1968 (Kingston Sounds)

The golden era of the rocksteady genre may only have lasted for two years, the period yielded quite a number of classics in Jamaican music history. For 'Rocksteady: Taking Over Orange Street 1966 - 1968' the Kingston Sounds label selected 16 rocksteady-gems from the extensive catalog of producer Bunny Lee.

In the track list well-known names like Uniques ('Love And Devotion', 'Girl Of My Dreams' and 'Hooray'), Roy Shirley ('If I Don't Know' and 'Good Ambition') and Glen Adams ('Hold Down Miss Winey', 'I Remember' and 'Taking Over Orange Street', Kingston Sounds' inspiration for the title of this compilation), but also a very young Errol Dunkley ('I'm Going Home'), two instrumentals from the hand of Skatalites-saxophonist Lester Sterling ('It Might As Well Be Spring', 'Soul Voyage') and forgotten stars like Ken Rose, Alva Lewis and the Webber Sisters.
