Yaadcore - Reggaeland (12 Yaad Records/Delicious Vinyl Island)

Met deze release zitten we muzikaal gezien helemaal in het universum van artiesten als Chronixx, Protoje of Jah9 en die laatste maakt ook daadwerkelijk haar opwachting in 'Police In Helicopter' een geslaagde revamp van de klassieker van John Holt.

Andere gasten zijn Richie Spice, die ganja tune 'Nyquill (Spliff A Light Spliff)' volledig naar zijn hand zet. In het nummer over de Lion Of Judah riddim van Micah Shemaiah, waarvoor een video werd opgenomen in één van de nieuwe legale (!) overdekte grow farms in Jamaica, stelt Yaadcore: "Spliff a light spliff, so do nuh fight it, this a me Panadol, this a me NyQuil!".

Met de ons onbekende Sarah Couch (de helft van indiepop-duo DeJaVilla) nam Yaadcore dan weer het naar r&b en EDM neigende 'La La Laa' op, de betreurde Lee 'Scratch' Perry, duikt, orakelend zoals gewoonlijk, op in 'Play God', en dan zijn er tenslotte nog I Wayne en Pressure Busspipe, waarmee Yaadcore een remix opnam van het toepasselijk getitelde 'Ready Now', zijn debuutsingle uit 2019:

Voor titelnummer 'Reggaeland', een zeer aanstekelijke hommage aan Jamaica en haar muzikale erfgoed, recycleerde Yaadcore de baslijn van de klassieke Cuss Cuss riddim. Inhoudelijk zorgt hij dan weer voor een primeur met 'Shrooms', het eerste Jamaicaanse nummer (voor zover wij weten) waarin niet het groene kruid, maar paddo's of magic mushrooms centraal staan: "When me collect the shrooms, mind a go vroom vroom vroom! Feel like me deh pon the moon, heart a go boom boom boom…". Herkenbaar is dan weer 'Say That You Love Me', Yaadcore's bijdrage over de City riddim van het Duitse Oneness Records.

Het laatste nummer op het album is de lichtvoetige door het Zwitserse Evidence Music geproduceerde bonustrack 'Tina', maar eigenlijk besluit Yaadcore met 'Ball Game (Knock It)'. Reggae en voetbal hebben al sinds Bob Marley een symbiotische relatie en deze productie van Green Lion Crew uit de Virgin Islands klinkt zelfs als het commentaar bij een echte voetbalmatch en zelf zouden we het album dan ook niet beter kunnen samenvatten:
