Moja - Home EP (Art Beat Records)

Voor deze 6 tracks tellende EP sloeg Moja de handen ineen met producers Florian 'Flox' Gratton en Clément 'Tamal' Thouard (die we ons nog herinnerden van 'Enter A Space', zijn samenwerking met Marcus Gad uit 2019). Net zoals op het net vermelde 'Enter A Space' wordt ook op 'Home' reggae vermengd met invloeden uit de Indische muziektraditie (vorm gegeven door het vioolspel van Sukdhev Prasad Mishra in tracks als 'Tightrope Walker' of het gebruik van "Ra Ma Da Sa Sa Se So Hung", een bekende mantra uit de Kundalini yoga die vertaald kan worden als "Zon, Maan, Aarde, Oneindigheid: Alles dat oneindig is, dat is wat ik ben." In 'Ode To The Moon').

Moja omschrijft 'Home' dan ook als: "Combining the intensity of reggae with the splendor of sacred music, where digital sounds and Indian melodies mix in a successful marriage, 'Home' is a call to travel, whether physical or spiritual.". Een Engelse uitdrukking stelt: "Home is where the heart is!", en voor Moja kan je hart net zo goed je geest zijn. Het is naar die spirituele thuis dat ook de Indisch geïnspireerde hoesillustratie van Izou in de vorm van een decoratief deurslot verwijst.

Inhoudelijk onthouden wij vooral het trage wat naar Virgin Islands-reggae nijgende 'Citizen Of The World', een wake-up call over ons ineenstuikende westerse samenlevingsmodel met een tekst die er echt inhakt en die we u zeker niet willen onthouden:   Are you really ready? What's gonna blow? Now the earth is calling, citizen of the world your kingdom is falling!   You've got to stand firm in these hard times, cause I see temptation deep in your eyes.  To keep the head above water, you need to clear it from all, false needs and desires, consumption propaganda. You need to broaden your horizons to see the consequence of our fantasy.   Are you really ready? What's gonna blow? Now the earth is calling, citizen of the world your kingdom is falling!   Acceleration, innovation, but living hand to mouth, whatever we do, whatever we say, the suffering comes from the south.
