Ghetto Priest - Vulture Culture (On-U Sound)

He joined the On-U Sound crew in the 1990 met African Headcharge, had zelfs een inbreng bij Sinead O'Connor, Asian Dub Foundation, Groove Armada en was aanwezig bij vele On-U Sound producties. Ghetto Priest is ook steeds een belangrijk musician and vocalist geweest bij de live performances van Sherwood himself. Dus de verwachtingen waren hoog gespannen.Te hoog misschien. Alhoewel ik links en rechts toch enkele positieve reacties hoor is me own opinion very hard. I mean from a man with such a history, such a playlist - you simply expect the best. Well he didn't, I really believe this man can do better (me mean, because he is just playing solo since 2002, perhaps the best is still to come?). Ik kan niet zeggen dat het een slecht album is, maar het is zo "On-U Sound" dat ik er te weinig inbreng van Ghetto Priest zelf in terug kan vinden. Heel the On-U Sound-crew is present (you name one, sure he's on the list: Skipp McDonald, Bublers, hiphopper Ri Ra en natuurlijk Sherwood himself). In the crew we even find Sly & Robby, Junior Delgado, Prince Far I en zelfs ol' Lee Perry's son Omar Perry. Dan verwacht je toch "fire" zou ik zeggen, wel dit vuurwerk blijft dus achterwege - pitty enough... Simply, if you like earlier On-U Sound productions, don't worry, you will be pleased. Een "oude" succesformule die overgoten wordt met hip-hop en rap, maar ook met Ierse folkinvloeden en instrumenten. Samen met de crew-samenstelling, best een interessant gegeven dus, maar spijtig genoeg is men hier deze keer niet diep genoeg gegaan. Really, it could have been much much better, so although me is not really pleased by this one, me give him credit for his next album. Me must say, me like the lyrics: very critical, even political statements about now-a-days slavery and other actual stuff. Yeah the lyrics got it all, but the music simply is too On-U-soundy. Example , the man singing bout: "...earthquake and thunder in the heart of Rome..." me expect to HEAR AND FEEL THE THUNDER in me brain, you know. Well on this On-U Sound-production, I didn't. No need to say more, but keep you informed about Ghetto Priest next moves, because me believe this man is important for the future of On-U Sound.
