Smoke & Mirrors Sound System - No. 10 Dubbing Street (Escape Hatch Records)

Big Audio Dynamite, the British post-punk outfit founded by Don Letts and The Clash guitarist Mick Jones (joined by Greg Roberts, Leo Williams and Dan Donovan, who would later go on to form Dreadzone), would have celebrated its 40th anniversary this year. The perfect occasion for Smoke & Mirrors Sound System to put the band's musical legacy back in the spotlight. For the occasion, they chose to rework 'No. 10 Upping Street', Big Audio Dynamite's second studio album from 1986, which also marked the final musical collaboration between ex-Clash members Mick Jones and Joe Strummer, both of whom handled production duties.

As always, Smoke & Mirrors mastermind John Roy gathered an impressive cast of collaborators. On vocals, we hear the likes of King Django, Ali Culotta from Stop The Presses, Zoe Devlin Love, Jesse Wagner of The Aggrolites, Brother Culture and Tippa Irie.

Personal highlights include 'C'mon Every Beatbox', featuring Zoe Devlin Love, and the brilliant 'Ticket', in which Brother Culture and Tippa Irie pay tribute to their multicultural roots in their inimitable signature style.

As the ultimate cherry on top, all ten vocal cuts are accompanied by stellar dub versions, crafted by none other than Victor Rice, Roger Rivas (The Aggrolites) and Jay Nugent aka Agent Jay (The Slackers), among others.

Even for those unfamiliar with the original 'No. 10 Upping Street', 'No. 10 Dubbing Street' comes highly recommended!
