Dreadsquad - Reggae From The Desert (Superfly Studio)

On this predominantly instrumental album, Marek Bogdanski explores new musical horizons, finding a way to merge his love for dub and reggae with a passion for African jazz.

To bring this vision to life, Dreadsquad enlisted a stellar lineup of musicians. 'Reggae From The Desert' prominently features the flutes of Don Fe and Alex Hazas, the saxophones of Craig Crofton and Alex Hazas (who also contributes on trumpet), and the piano and Hammond organ of Piotr Zabrodzki.

Among the highlights is an excellent reimagining of 'Yèkèrmo Sèw', the Ethio-jazz classic by Mulatu Astatke, which some may remember from the soundtrack of 'Broken Flowers'.

The track list also includes skilful reworks of well-known Dreadsquad riddims like 'Bun Dem' and 'Caravan'. Meanwhile, the album's cover art gives a playful nod to the iconic poster for the 1959 film 'Ben-Hur'.
