Train To Roots - Ancora Qui (INRI)

The seven-year hiatus brought some lineup changes and a renewed focus on songs in Italian and Sardinian.

'Ancora Qui' was recorded at their Roble Factory studio in Alghero, only using analogue equipment, resulting in a gem of an album that ranks among the best in Train To Roots' discography (though it's a bit of a shame that, for now, it's only available digitally).

For opener 'Paxi (LKJ)' (Sardinian for "peace"), Train To Roots recycled the riddim from Linton Kwesi Johnson's 'Bass Culture', and the track list also features a dub version of that same track by Italian Londoner Gaudi.

The ode to the moon 'Sa Luna' is another highlight (be sure also to check out the punchier 'Sa Luna RMX'), while 'Ondanomala' ("tidal wave") blends rocksteady with traditional Italian mandolin music (sometimes humorously referred to as "spaghetti mandolini").

However, the absolute anthem on 'Ancora Qui', is the title track itself, which has everything from an intimate melodica intro to delightful horns and a chorus that instantly worms its way into your brain.
