Foresta & Royal Blu - Sing With God EP (Foresta Music)

The title of the EP and the title track, should be considered an antipode of the well-known saying: "To dance with the devil", or as the duo summarizes: "To sing it yourself with God means to align yourself with positivity-to bring good into the world for the purpose of pushing progress.". Foresta's trademark is a mix of hip-hop, soul, r&b and reggae, so if you're a reggae purist this EP might not be for you. Opener 'Let's Get High' holds the promise of being a killer ganja tune, but winds up sounding more like a pop ballad. 'Believe', a duet with Lila Ike, whom we still reminded from 'We Got It For You', her combination with Koro Fyah, we'd like to describe as Jamaican r&b (see also Chronixx). In 'Blu Mahoe', somewhere between reggae and hip-hop, Royal Blu salutes the beauty of Jamaica, but at the same time also refers to the negative impact international corporations are having on the island, a history dating back to the period of the slave plantations. Closing and title track 'Sing With God' featuring Runkus, is a combination of r&b and dancehall, but being reggae lovers at heart, our personal favorite from the track list is 'On The Side', in which Blu's flow reminded us somewhat of Protoje's. The striking artwork for the EP is the work of Royal's brother Taj Francis, a promising visual artist. At the very least, 'Sing With God' is an intriguing calling card.
