The Expanders - Old Time Something Come Back Again Vol. 1 & 2 (Easy Star Records)

By Jah Rebel

Five years after their cover-album 'Old Time Something Come Back Again Vol. 1', The Expanders now present a sequel.

The track list for the first volume (in the meantime downloadable for free on the band's website) was still made up of songs like The Gladiators' 'Tribulation', Culture's 'Iron Sharpening Iron' or The Ethiopians' 'Conquering Lion', that were already part of the band's live sets, but for 'Old Time Something Come Back Again Vol. 2' they had to go in search of new inspiration. And where better to do that than in the extensive archives of reggae collector Roger Steffens? In the track list versions of well-known and lesser known gems from artists like Burning Spear (opener 'Walla Walla', 'We Are Free'), The Ethiopians ('Life Is A Funny Thing', 'Another Moses', Band You Belly '), Yabby You ('Anti-Christ'), Little Roy ('Christopher Columbus') or The Itals ('Brutal'). All songs were recorded with a lot of respect for the original and the result are two of the most beautiful cover albums we've ever had the pleasure listening to. Oldies but goodies!
