Droop Lion - Ideologies (VPal/Musicast Distribution)

'Ideologies' opens with 'Have You Seen The Rain', a reggae version of the Creedence Cleerwater Revival classic; a bit of an odd choice, but the remainder of the tracks on this album could absolutely convince. Obviously, Droop's hits, the gospel-like 'Freeway' (inspired by the events during the so-called Tivoli Incursion in 2010, when during the search for drug lord and gang leader Christopher 'Dudus' Coke, security forces made 73 victims) and closing track 'Pray For Them' (written after the heavy floods that hit Jamaica in 2013) could not be missing, but in addition 'Ideologies' contains enough convincing new songs. Highlights are 'Modern Slavery', a song in which workers will undoubtedly recognize themselves, the excellent ganja tune 'Ganja Baby' featuring the highly original lyric: "From mi born mi a ganja man, mi mother used to push me in a ganja pram ...", and 'Lock Down' an indictment against the numerous wrongful arrests on the island. Rock-solid release by a singer with an original voice.
