Downbeat - Introspeccion (Dub-O-Phonic)

By Jah Rebel

From now on we'll also be reviewing the releases on the Cypriot Dub-O-Phonic label. The net-label works according to the so-called creative-common principle, allowing artists to reach a wider audience by offering their albums as a free download.

First up is 'Introspeccion' by Downbeat. This dub collective hails from Ciudad de Mendoza in Argentina and describes its sound as "dub electrorganica" (also the title of the band's 2015 debut album) or "electrorganic dub". On this second long player they mix dub ('Ganjah Time', the melodica-driven 'I & I'), nyahbinghi (opener 'Heartbeat'), electronics, jazz ('Black Panthers') and drum & bass (again 'Black Panthers'). Highly enjoyable experimental Argentinean dub with influences from Revolutionary Dub Warriors ('Dub Machine').
