Various Artists - Inna De Yard: The Soul Of Jamaica (Chapter Two Records/Wagram)

By Jah Rebel

Back in 2011, along with the Makasound label, the prestigious Inna De Yard series also ended, but is now finally revived by Chapter Two Records.

No trace though of initiator and driving force Earl 'Chinna' Smith, and his iconic yard was no longer used for the recording of 'The Soul Of Jamaica'. His pivotal role seems to have been taken over by Winston McAnuff, and on 'The Soul Of Jamaica' it are mostly veterans like Ken Boothe, The Viceroys, Lloyd Parks, Kiddus I or Cedric 'Congo' Myton performing Inna The Yard-versions of hits like 'Artibella', 'Youth Man', 'Slaving', 'Love Is The Key' and more. The younger generation is represented by Winston's son Kush (drummer and vocalist with The Uprising Roots Band), Derajah (also already present in the first incarnation of Inna De Yard), Steve Newland (guitarist and vocalist with Rootz Underground) and Var (Kevor 'Var' Williams, lead vocalist with Pentateuch). The recordings were also filmed and bundled in a 14-minute mini-documentary, edited by Bernard Benant.

The Inna De Yard experience is heading for Europe and will be playing the Cactus Club in Bruges on April 23rd!
