The London International Ska Festival 2017

By Jah Rebel

From April 13th until April 16th, the British capital will once again host the London International Ska Festival, an event that in the past has perhaps enjoyed too little attention on our website. It already exists since 1988 (!) and that all thanks to unbridled effort of one man: Pama International's Alan Sean Flowerdew!

The different events making up the festival take place in different locations spread around the city; the most original probably being an original paddle steamer cruising the river Thames.

Citing all the different events taking place would take us too far, buts ome of the highlights definitely are a show celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Greensleeves label featuring Freddie McGregor, Yellowman, Capital Letters and King Jammy (O2 Forum, Kentish Town), Trojan Reggae Chartbusters featuring The Pioneers, Dave & Ansel Collins and Owen Gray (The Assembly Hall, Islington), Misty In Roots (The Assembly Hall, Islington), Bitty McLean performing his 'On Bond Street' album in its entirety (The Jazz Café, Camden), Rocksteady On The River (a river cruise again featuring Bitty McLean and Christopher Ellis), the Trojan Thames Cruise featuring Carroll Thompson bringing an homage to Phyllis Dillon and last, but certainly not least, 1000 Volts of Holt, an homage to the Jamaican crooner by, among others, Brinsley Ford, Carroll Thompson, Christopher Ellis and Jewels (The Jazz Café, Camden).

More information and tickets for the various events you can find on the festival's website. In any case a delegation of Reggae.be will be present this year, so you can already look forward to a lengthy report afterwards.
