Dub Store Records continues to deliver excellent compilations as if they were hot cakes. With 'Derrick Harriott Rocksteady 1966-1969' they already focused on his rocksteady productions, and with 'Derrick Harriott Reggae Funk & Soul 1969-1975' they're now doing the same with the later output of the Jamaican singer and producer. 

On this compilation you'll mostly find reggae versions of songs that were the soundtrack for the black consciousness movement in the United States. Just opener 'Black Moses' alone (a tribute to Isaac Hayes on the melody of 'Theme From Shaft' by a certain Preacher) makes the purchase of 'Derrick Harriott Reggae Funk & Soul 1969-1975' worthwhile. In addition, you'll also get a number of songs by Chosen Few, a Jamaican band that specialized in recording covers of American soul and disco songs; on 'Derrick Harriott Reggae Funk & Soul' among others The Stylistics' 'People Make The World Go Round' and Billy Paul's 'Am I Black Enough For You'. Derrick Harriott also recorded a great version of the latter's 'Brown Baby' and also did an excellent version of the Temptations-classic 'Message From A Black Man'. The compilation ends with 'Rescue The Children', a classic Junior Soul aka Junior Murvin tune. Black power, Jamaican style!
