Fred Locks - Do Jah Works (Rebel Sound Records)

Locks was born in Kingston as Stafford Elliot, but has been living in the United States since the 1980s, so it should come as no surprise his new album appears on the American Rebel Sound Records label. For 'Do Jah Works' Fred Locks joined forces with producer Steven Stanley, who gave the album a vintage touch. Not that this album sounds like a long-lost Studio One classic, but the songs on 'Do Jah Works', a mix of solid conscious tracks like opener 'About My Father', 'Jah You Are My Witness' or 'This A Chant' (as far as we're concerned the absolute killer in the track list) and the better lovers tunes like 'Make The First Step', 'Sweet Tender Love' or 'She's Mine', made us relive the new roots releases from the nineteen nineties, one of our favorite periods in reggae music.
