Jah Works - Believe (Riddim House Productions)

You only have to listen to some of the songs on 'Believe' to realize Jah Works is a well-oiled machine. No bombastic rock guitars on 'Believe', but solid roots supported by a delicious horn section, on the album best illustrated in 'Show Not Tell'. 'Gravity' is already a solid hit with their fans and has become an integral part of their live sets, and 'Rumbling Time' and 'Tonite's The Nite' will no doubt also become crowd favorites. As we already stated, 'Believe' contains mostly conscious roots, but lead vocalist Scotty P also likes the odd lovers rock tune. We were most taken with 'So Lovely (Right By My Side)', but 'Wasn't Meant To Be' is almost equally enjoyable. If we add to that the fact a number of the songs on 'Believe' were produced by good folk like Jim 'Lion' Fox, Laurent 'Tippy' Alfred of I Grade Records and ex-John Brown's Body Jason 'Jocko' Randall, then you should slowly start realizing that this is one of the better American releases you'll have the pleasure listening to this year. Just 'Believe'!
