Various Artists - Tape Rolling! (Pressure Sounds)

In the track list a lot of well-known tunes (John Holt's 'Stick By Me', Eric Donaldson's inevitable 'Cherry Oh Baby' followed by 'Festival Mash Up', I Roy's version over that same riddim, Horace Andy's version of 'Man Next Door'...) and riddims (I Roy's 'Devil's Brother In Law', a version of The Paragons' 'Left With A Broken Heart', Big Joe's 'Rasta Train' , a version over Count Prince Miller's 'Mule Train', King Tubby's 'Straight To The Copycat Head', a version over the Bangarang riddim...), but time and again in a slightly different version than the one you and I are used to. Opener 'The Time Has Come' - note that title - was the last song Slim Smith released before his tragic demise, U Roy Junior's 'Two Ton Gulletto' is a tribute to the colorful, but almost forgotten American boxer Tony 'Two Ton' Galento, known for his outrageous publicity stunts in which he took on, among other things, a kangaroo and an octopus (!), and 'Trying To Wreck My Life' is one of the first songs by Leroy Smart, who back then apparently still went by the name Leroy Samuels. Even though 'Tape Rolling!' represents but a fragment of Bunny Lee's career, this compilation is a nice illustration of a key moment in Lee's production career.
