Raggabund - Buena Medicina (Irievibration Records/Grooveattack)

By Jah Rebel

Spanish reggae from Germany? Oh well, why not! Raggabund is the brainchild of Paco 'El Criminal' Mendoza and Don Caramelo, two brothers with South American roots from Munich. For 'Buena Medicina' the duo collaborated with the Swiss band The Dubby Conquerors (back in 2008 winners of the Rototom European Reggae Contest), also their regular backing band on stage.

On 'Buena Medicina' El Criminal and Don Caramelo alternate between Spanish, English and German, without much effort and to spice things up even more they invited guests like Portuguese singer Maria Rui, Mexican singjay/rapper Lengualerta (ex-Tijuana No) and Sebastian Sturm. The Spanish spoken songs of the duo ('Quiero Bailar', title track 'Buena Medicina', 'Nada Sirve') unintentionally reminded yours truly of the repertoire of Chilean artist Quique Neira. Really Latin American (with a dash of Italian) things get with 'Chilling' featuring De Luca, also our favorite track on 'Buena Medicina': Peruvian chicha meets reggae! Raggabund causes a tropical sun to shine down over Bavaria. Summer has begun! A gozar!
