Rootz Underground - Return Of The Righteous Vol. 1 (Riverstone Records/SPV Recordings)

This first volume opens with the excellent title track 'Return Of The Righteous', a song that already enjoyed some popularity on the internet thanks to the original accompanying clip for which Rootz Underground drew inspiration from Asian martial arts movies. Other tracks that drew our attention were 'Ban Mi', for which the band invited singer Timeka Marshall, and the rootsy 'Fret Not Thyself', but the ear-catcher in the track list is without any doubt 'Kingston Town', a reworking of the classic by The Animals 'House Of The Rising Sun' for which the band enlisted the help of veteran Toots Hibbert.
