Dave & Ansell Collins - Double Up!! (Kingston Sounds)

In 1971 Jamaican duo Dave & Ansell Collins achieved immortality with 'Double Barrel', a song which in May of that year held the number one spot in the UK charts for two weeks straight. For 'Double Up!!' the Kingston Sounds label compiled some lesser known, but no less successful recordings by the twosome.

Style-wise some tracks on this compilation are in line with 'Double Barrel' ('Liquidator Shuffle', '007 (Both Barrels)', 'Sexy Dream', over Max Romeo's early slackness tune 'Wet Dream', 'Hot Sauce'), but other songs rather seem to underline Dave Barker's deejay and singing qualities ('Just Can't Stand It (Man Next Door)', the classic by The Paragons, 'Johnny Dollar', 'Girl Of My Dreams', 'Queen Of The Minstrel'). Catchy compilation that certainly won't disappoint.
