Faya Dub - On The Road (Self-published/Musicast Distribution)

The seed for this album was planted in Greece, where Faya Dub performed at the well-known Athenian Half Note Jazz Club (explaining the jazzy character of 'On The Road'). Opener 'Tikanis' (translated from Greek meaning: "How are you?") is a nod to their Greek hosts, who greeted them with that phrase every morning. 'On The Road' features mostly jazzy instrumental ska and reggae, including a ska-reworking of Miles Davis' 'Half Nelson' and a cover of 'Teen Town', a song originally recorded by jazz-rock band Weather Report, dedicated by Faya Dub to Weather Report bassist Jaco Pastorius. Another tribute is 'Stix Dan', this time to the late Samuel 'Stix Dan' Reid who passed away in 2009 and with whom Faya Dub still recorded the song 'Poor Man's Blood' back in 2001. Only closing track 'Ou Ja Sav', a song in which yours truly, among other things, discovered influences from South African township jive, has a slightly different vibe than the rest of the songs on 'On The Road'.
