Tatanka - Tatanka (Roots Musician Records)

Anyone who's ever seen the western epic 'Dances With Wolves' knows "tatanka" is Lakota for "Bison" and it's exactly that animal which is depicted on the cover of 'Tatanka'. The voice of singer/guitarist Ian Gastl (aka Champian) might sound somewhat poppy to/for reggae lovers (and reminded yours truly somewhat of that of Rebelution's Eric Rachmany), but Tatanka's sound is quite dubby. With a song like 'Show Me Love', a version over the Sleng Teng riddim, and a collaboration with reggae veteran Triston Palmer ('Give Green'), the band proves they do know their Jamaican classics.
