Leroy Sibbles and Asham cheering Easter up in Petrol

Puppa Mighty's Super Power opened the dance with a fine selection, unfortunately the majority of the people came around 11 o'clock, when Asham started with a long medley of Heptones songs -  a nostalgic warming up - before the real deal came.

Leroy Sibbles started off with 'Party Time', which would be the theme of the evening. 'Feel like dancing' (Marcia Griffiths), a popular tune of the 80's, put a smile on many faces, especially on those who remembered that period. More and more people started dancing when  hearing classics such 'Guiding star', 'Pretty looks' en 'Drifter', a song by Dennis Walks for Harry Mudie, recorded with Leroy on bass in 1969. Troughout the years the the drifter riddim gained a lot of popularity which resulted in more then 100 versions. Sibbles also created the 'Pass the couchie/dutchie' riddim and demonstrated this once again on his pitch-black (metal) bass guitar which is a standard ingredient of his shows.

Hit after hit, Jamaican style is the top singer and musican's signature. As usual accompanied by Asham Sibbles sang roots and rocksteady sing a longs without any problem. After a almost two hours show he ended with 'Never Give Up'. Be like him, never give up! Someday you'll be rewarded for your efforts for living the good life you live. As an encore, Leroy Sibbles played a blues ballad which he accompanied himself on the guitar. Leroy Sibbles has stopped being innovative a long time ago, but as a pioneer of reggae, he knows how to charm new generations, again and again. It's always a great pleasure to see and hear him perform. After the show, Young Gun Superior kept the crowd in the great hall dancing and cleared the way for Civalizee. Afterwards the party kept going in the Piaf, with Soulboys Vs Rudeboys. Another great night of reggae music in Petrol!
