Tony Brevett, founding member of rocksteady trio The Melodians and cousin of Lloyd Brevet – bassist of the Skatalites whom passed away in march this year – lost the fight against cancer on the 25th of October.
Despite battling cancer, Brevett was still active with The Melodians. While losing co-founder Brent Dowe in 2006, Brevett and other original member Trevor McNaughton released a new album – called 'Lyric To Riddim' – earlier this year through Willie Lindo's Heavy Beat Records. The album – that contained a few tracks with Dowe – served as a celebration for the 50-year jubilee of the Melodians and as a tribute for Brent Dowe.
Together with Jah Shakespear, one of the founders of Reggae.be, he first started as a critic and a reporter before in the end of 2014 becoming editor in chief. Divides his time between his two passions: music and Haile Selassie.
