Last Friday, Charly 'The country boy' Black was back in our country . He has been visiting us frequently over the past few years and he appears to be a well-loved guest of the dancehallfans. This time Charly did it "clubstyle" in club Publik in Antwerp, especially known for its R&B and hiphop-parties, and lately also for their concept "Strictly Dancehall". It's Charlyyyyyyy!
Publik is not a reggae location, so there was no big crowd of reggae fans. This club has been into R&B and hip-hop for years and has recently taken its first steps towards dancehall. With their concept "Strictly dancehall" they introduce the new audience to the genre and they organize heavy evenings with the newest pumping dancehallbeats, spun by the most popular soundsystems from Antwerp and its surroundings. On Friday, they invited a Jamaican artist for the first time, and that honour went to Charly Black, who has been here a few times before and who has always provided a dancehallshow filled with energy.
'The Country Boy' has already got a number of dancehallhits in both Jamaica and Europe and he does not plan to stop at that. The audience came into the vibe earlier on in the evening with Civalizee Foundation and Babybang, who got everybody moving. Only around 2.15 (as usual in clubs), Charly Black Himself came onto the stage, but everyone was already in the mood. Charly does not have an evening-filling show and we were, after all, still in a club, so after about thirty minutes his show was already over. Luckily he has got enough hits to make that half an hour a strong one. Fiesta, Dig out ur Pumpum, Buddy, The Agony... are only a few of the tunes we heard before his most well-known hit of the moment: Whine & Kotch. Slackness, sturdy beats and a strong performance. The ladies in Beljam being unable to match up to their counterparts in the clip is only a minor detail, big up the dancehallqueens! After a show full of energy, inciting the entire club, Charly Black did a meet and greet with the fans in the club, what a great surprise!
In the meantime Civalizee took over on the turning tables, and took care of a lovely old school dancehall set to carry on into the night. All in all it was a fun club night in Publik, where both the real fans and the ones who did not know Charly had a jolly night. Curious to see which artists and soundsystems will pass by in the future, keep it up!
