Like every year, summer time means 'Reggae Gold' time at VP Records, but unfortunately the 2013 edition is a bit of a bummer. VP Records apparently wants to deliver something to everyone's taste, look at the dub step and hip-hop numbers by artists like Major Lazer or Snoop Lion and Movado on the track list.
The songs of Sean Paul and Gyptianare quite okay, but we had honestly never heard of Angela Hunte ('One Shot'). 'Perfect Love Song' was definitely not the best song from the tracklist of Morgan Heritage's new album 'Here Come The Kings'. Remain some successful tracks from Busy Signal and Etana (on Gyal Season riddim) and Queen Ifrica and Tarrus Riley (on the Tropical Escaperiddim). The best song on this album is undoubtedly the combination Beres Hammond and Shaggy with 'Fight This Feeling ".
What concerns the more dancehall-orientated tracks on "Reggae Gold 2013" we can only recommend Aidonia's 'Fi Di Jockey', Konshens' 'Bad Girl' or I Octane's 'Gal Gimme Bun'. 'Reggae Gold 2013' comes with a bonus disc with some classics from the VP catalog as 'Zungguzungguzungguzeng ', 'Greetings' or 'Here I Come', which every true reggae fan should already have in his collection!
