On Wednesday January 2nd of this year 59-year-old Trevor Roper lost his battle with cancer. Most likely, his name won't mean much for many of you, but if we tell you that Roper achieved most of his fame as the lead-vocalist for Chalice, it probably rings more of a bell for some.
Chalice, founded in 1980, is a somewhat forgotten Jamaican band that, in its heydays, could compete with Third World and was one of the headliners of the 1981 edition of the now legendary Reggae Sunsplash festival. The band still exists, but in a strongly modified lineup.
In the 1990s Roper moved to Chicago and for the most part left his musical life for what it was. He leaves a wife and six children behind.
