Belgian Afro Beat Association - The King Is Among Us (Wam Recordings)

First off all, this cd is not me-cup-of tea, because it is to jazzy. Anyway, me is not gonna tell about who and what, you can find this in one of Jah Shakespear's reviews on this site, but I&I have seen these boys playing two live sessions and me think these people should be followed by the Belgian reggae-scene because what them are doing is very interesting.

So I&I was looking for this CD inna Fnac, and guess were did me find this one? Yeah man, in the jazz section. In fact, me can understand, because this cd is quite jazzy, with lots of funk, ska and Latin influences. So far this warning to them roots and ragga lovers. On this CD review, me only like to mention the fifth song and the second song/prayer. If somebody wants to tell more about the complete CD, please do but me don't because as me said before, it is too jazzy/funky to me as a reggae-lover. Me only wanted to mention them having their first cd and them being on the WMA-Europe charts. So the fifth song on this one is called 'Afroporn' and makes a perfect harmony between this jazzy influence and a driving reggae riddim. This special mix of reggae, jazz and even some Latin music is what makes this song very special and even remarkable international. So it makes me want to write about it. Anyway, very innovating in reggae-land. Really worth listening to this song, cause of this strange combination. Just check it out.

 The other thing taking me attention on this CD, is the second track, which actually is a Nigerian prayer sung by Bodé about Jah/God. By the way, this Bodé actually is a Nigerian, living near Antwerp (ex-Nieuwe Scene, VRT, djembé sessions, BV= Black Vlaming). Very interesting song/prayer, nice drum talking, together with Nigerian vocals which quietly moves into an actual European based reflecting story/song. Interesting again. Me not say, them other songs are not good, but they really are not up to me. So remember, this is a Belgian production. Normally this is not me thing but for this one, me just like to say: respect!
