Arky Starch - Warrior Without Border EP (Self-published)

by Jah Rebel

For 'Warrior Without Border', his new nine-track EP, Arky Starch says he really let himself experiment with sounds, effects and styles.

Arky Starch: "Experimenting is something I really enjoy and get a lot of satisfaction from. 'Warrior Without Border' is therefore packed with sounds that came about through endlessly playing around with effects and discovering new sounds. I've always been an early riser and a little headstrong. Early in the morning, my ears are at their sharpest and my mind is rested. That's when I pick up on the smallest nuances, can do my best mixing and make the necessary corrections. As a producer, you certainly can't afford to be lazy or settle too quickly. The real art lies in finishing the job: staying disciplined, constantly refining, listening and improving the little details time and again. That process keeps me constantly occupied."

As the title of the opener 'Call East' already suggests, Arky takes us to Southeast Asia with this composition, while 'Scorching', written during a heatwave in Morocco, taps nicely into the current climate crisis. The only proper vocal cut on 'Warrior Without Border' is 'War Cry', but our personal favourite is the Jackie Mittoo-esque closing track 'Jah Is The Ruler'.

Until further notice, we're more than happy to let Arky Starch keep experimenting!
