For his fourth full-length, Tomawok headed to the Vox Studio in Montpellier, where he teamed up with Breton duo Daddy and Hypa aka D&H.
Additional production on 'Wake Up' comes courtesy of Polish producer Dreadsquad, Argentina's Krak In Dub, and Switzerland's Derrick Sound.
The Krak In Dub-produced opener 'Petit Soldat' stands out immediately, its prominent clarinet giving the track a subtle Balkan flavour. On 'Full Up A Style', Tomawok briefly leans into a style reminiscent of Tonton David, while for title track 'Wake Up' he brings in American rapper Seuss Mace, shifting gears into full-on hip-hop territory.
Another strong combination tune is 'Mad Man', which sees Tomawok bringing Jamaican dancehall artist Mr. Lexx back into the spotlight, while 'Locomotive' features a take on the classic Soulful Music riddim, sampled by Dreadsquad.
Born Thomas Perez, Tomawok has Spanish roots; something he playfully highlights on 'Cours d'Espagnol'. Other standouts include ganja tune 'Je L'Allume', produced by Derrick Sound, the excellent 'Ruff & Tuff', and closing track 'Canoë'.
Another highly enjoyable release from an artist with a lightning-fast flow and an impeccable feel for riddims!
