Marcus I meets aDUBta & The Black Oak Roots Allstars - Fullness (F-Spot Records)

The former is a Spanish singer-songwriter now based in France, while the latter is a German producer who cut his teeth as a drummer with bands like Headcornerstone, Soulrise and Irie Invaders.

aDubta clearly has a deep love for the golden era of Jamaican roots, and much of 'Fullness' plays out as a series of stylistic nods to the genre's greats.

Opener 'Upful' immediately brings to mind Israel Vibration, while a track like 'Untold Story' breathes the spirit of Bob Marley & The Wailers ('One Love/People Get Ready'). The bassline of 'Mr. Bossman' echoes that of 'Sweetie Come Brush Me' by John Holt, and the lush vocal harmonies on 'Game Over' recall The Tamlins.

Only on 'Saxstream', an instrumental version of 'Upstream' that gives saxophonist Viti Sanchez room to shine, do the vocals briefly step aside.

Near-perfect take on old-school roots reggae!
