Eesah is the musical alias of Kingston-born Ackime Nathaniel Nephew, who first cut his teeth in the music industry as a sound engineer at the Jah Ova Evil Studio. When the late J.O.E./Lil Joe (Alty Nunes) realized that Ackime could more than hold his own vocally alongside artists like Chronixx, Micah Shemaiah, Hempress Sativa and Masicka - all regulars at the studio - he was given the chance to record his first tunes under the name Jahkime.
These days, he goes by Eesah. In 2022, Eesah already teamed up with Evidence Music for the 'Timeless' album, and that collaboration clearly struck a chord, as the Swiss outfit returns for 'Success'.
Standout tracks here include opening cut 'Mighty Warrior', 'Big & Bad' (in which Eesah's voice evokes that of Ini Kamoze) and the excellent 'Hold A Vibe' (built over a revamp of the Drum Song riddim), all produced by Little Lion Sound. The absolute highlight, however, is 'Badda We Badda', a combination tune with Brother Culture.
The more minimalist, hip-hop-leaning productions by 808 Delavega (Etienne Maître, founder of Evidence Music alongside his brother Nicolas and Nicolas Meury of Little Lion Sound) were less to our taste.
All in all, a strong release from an artist you'll definitely want to keep an eye on.
