Winston McAnuff - Electric Dread + Junior Delgado - Stranger + Gregory Isaacs - Talk Don't Bother Me (VP Records)

'Electric Dread' will, of course, forever be remembered as the album that gave Winston McAnuff his nickname. For his 1986 debut LP, McAnuff enlisted the help of Inner Circle veteran Bernard 'Touter' Harvey, who in turn brought along fellow Inner Circle members Charles 'Bulgie' Farquharson (keyboards), Lancelot Hall (drums) and bassist Ian Lewis. Some of the tracks may sound a little dated today, but standouts remain the love tune 'Ain't That Love' and the pop-leaning opener 'Change My Mind'.

As for Junior Delgado's 'Stranger', also released in 1986, there isn't much more to say than that it was recorded with the Skengdon All-Stars under the direction of Jackie Mittoo. The track list includes, among others, an alternate version of the Jah Shaka favourite 'Poverty', the excellent love tune 'Love Is A Blessing', the highly catchy 'Magic At Night', and the superb closing track 'Rebel Music'.

We wrap things up with 'Talk Don't Bother Me', a somewhat unjustly overlooked Gregory Isaacs album from 1987. Recorded with Lloyd Parks and his We The People Band, and featuring Jackie Mittoo and Keith Sterling on keyboards alongside Dwight Pinkney on guitar, this finds Gregory Isaacs in peak form. Be sure to check out the western-flavoured 'Here Comes Trouble', the highly enjoyable 'Rebel With A Cause', closing track 'Love Without Intermission' - a love tune in the purest Gregory Isaacs style - and the tribute to Skengdon himself, 'Don Of All Dons'.
