UPHILL SOUND

Soundsystem from Brussels specialized in:

  • Reggae

The founding members Junior Fragga, Smiley & Mista V started playing their reggae cd’s and vinyl just for fun in a local youthhouse near Brussels. People encouraged them to go further on because they liked their originality. So they decided to build a soundsystem. The choice of a name wasn’t very difficult as their approach to reggae music is positive & righteous.
In 1998 Uphill Sound was born. The main focus of the sound is bringing an entertaining, original mix of foundation, rub a dub and the latest dancehall selections. In 2002 Lesta joined the sound as an operator and engineer mostly working behind the scène mixing and cutting the dubplates (check out www.dubplate.be) for Uphill.
During the years Uphill sound build up a strong reputation playing regularly at major Belgian reggae events and festivals, as well as opening for several reggae artists such as Postman, The Gladiators, The Skatalites, Culture, Uman, Ziggi, Starkey Banton & Mr. Williamz.
They played in clubs such as l’Ancienne Belgique, Culture Club, Petrol, Hof ter Lo, Kultuurkaffee, Kaaiman, Trix alongside the major players of the Belgian soundsystem arena as well as top international sounds and dj’s such as Killamanjaro, Sentinel, One love sound, Seanie B (BBC1xtra)..
Their first step into competition was in 2004 by winning the first 45 Fightclub organized by Civalizee Foundation. A year later they took part of the Benelux Cup Clash winning there first clash against Winnieman sound from Rotterdam. In the finals they had to accept defeat from Belgian number one sound Civilazee Foundation. But taking part in such a competition is just one aspect of the sound. The most vital element is the developpement of reggae in Belgium, that is why Uphill also hosts a radio show, Uphill Soundstation, every Tuesday from 11 till 12 Pm at FM Brussels 98.8 FM.
